Peter Slag, Secretary-General

Peter will be a 3rd year at UVA in the fall, majoring in Global Development Studies and Politics. He was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, although he holds citizenship in both the United States and The Netherlands (don't mention the last World Cup...). Peter has participated in Model UN since high school and has been an active member of the International Relations Organization since his first semester of college. In addition to IRO, he is involved in Global Development Organization and University Democrats. Over the summer, Peter plans to take the knowledge and skills garnered through Model UN abroad, traveling to Zambia to do research on Chinese-African relations. During free time, he enjoys playing (real) football and backpacking. Peter is thrilled and honored to be the Secretary-General of VAMUN XXXI and excited to welcome you to UVA in November!

 

Joe Choi, Under-Secretary-General for Delegations

Joe is a second year majoring in art history. He comes to the University from New Jersey via Northern Virginia. Joe has participated in IRO since his first semester at the University when he served as Vice Chair for the Ministry of Magic. He is also actively involved in the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society. He looks forward to welcoming all of you to grounds in November! 

 

Max O'Beirne, Under-Secretary-General for Crisis Committees

William Maxwell O'Beirne, or "Max," grew up in Vienna, Virginia. He was heavily involved in his high school Model UN club at George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church, VA, where he graduated with an International Baccalaureate diploma. He is planning to major in politics, and enjoys sailing and hanging out with friends in his spare time.

 

Swati Teerdhala, Under-Secretary-General for General Assemblies and Specialized Committees

Swati Teerdhala is a Commerce/South Asian Studies major at the University of Virginia. She has been involved in Model UN since her freshman year of high school and has also been a part of VAMUN for more than two years now. Aside from IRO, Swati is actively involved in Student Council, UVA di Shaan, and Madison House. She is also known for her ridiculous trivia knowledge and ability to make the perfect tomato basil sauce. Swati is very excited to be a part of the VAMUN XXXI Secretariat!

 

Ashna Contractor, Under-Secretary-General for Administration

Ashna is a 2nd year student from Mumbai, India here at the University of Virginia. Though undecided about her major, she wishes to pursue something in the field of foreign affairs and international relations. She has actively participated in Model UN conferences in India and the US, and is very fond of debating. Other than the International Relations Organization, Ashna is involved with the Washington Literary Society and Debating Union and the South Asian a cappella group, Ektaal. She enjoys music, food, traveling and outdoor activities like hiking, trekking, and camping.

 

Angie Wu, Under-Secretary-General for Logistics

Angie is a 2nd year student here at UVA, born and raised in Beijing, China. She plans to double major in Art History and Architecture. Angie has participated in Model UN (in English, of course), throughout high school and into college. She joined IRO during her first semester and has worked on VAMUN and IRO's college conference, VICS. She likes traveling solo, spending time in museums, playing intramural sports, and simply walking around Grounds. 

 

Alex Webb, Under-Secretary-General for Business and Public Relations

Alex is a second year at UVA hailing from scenic Salt Lake City, Utah. He is currently studying foreign affairs and is naturally an active participant in IRO. An avid skier, Alex is also an asset of UVA's ski team, VASST. Aside from international relations, he enjoys studying foreign languages, history, and photography. In his free time, he loves reading the newspaper and working on his goal of eating at all of Charlottesville's dining establishments.

 

Colette Martin, Under-Secretary-General for Staff

Colette is a second year at UVA intending to pursue a double major in history and politics. As an international student from Scotland, she has been involved in the International Reations Organization since her arrival in the United States. As well as IRO, Colette is a member of the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, Pi Beta Phi sorority and several public service programs. She also enjoys playing field hockey and watching Glasgow Celtic Football Club.
